1. Increasing the number of antibodies for in-house IHC testing: Expanding your antibody test menu will directly increase the number of IHC orders per day. A general rule of thumb is that for every 100 hospital beds serviced by the pathology laboratory in a given medical community, the lab should offer between 20-25 antibodies. A hospital with > 500 beds should thus have > 100 antibodies available in the institutional IHC laboratory. We will help you strike a cost-effective, optimized balance between under- and over-utilization of IHC testing to maximize revenues. For example, an estimate of the projected revenue increase that may be realized from the addition of new antibodies to the lab may be obtained by the following formula: Increase in revenue per period = [(existing antibodies per period + additional # of new antibodies) x current reimbursement rate for that period] ÷ existing antibodies per period. Typically, a 30% increase in immunostain orders should be accompanied by a 20% increase in revenue. More information |
